The Domino Effect of "Cereal for Smiles"

The Domino Effect of "Cereal for Smiles"

The domino effect is in full force with a special act of kindness started by Creekside Early Childhood School and Lakota West Freshman School - and now spreading to Independence Elementary School.

Called Cereal for Smiles 2.0, the idea first took shape last year at Creekside ECS when the school's Character Team tackled the philanthropy project. Their school-wide collection of cereal boxes for the community's primary food and clothing pantry, Reach Out Lakota, ended with a domino course that zigzagged through the hallways.

The fact that the school adjoins the Lakota West Freshman campus through a single door between their cafeterias inspired this year's partnership. The expanded effort culminated in a course of 850 cereal boxes that bridged both buildings. Creekside's Character Team members teamed up with the Westside Leaders to build the course before the entire student body joined in, lining the hallway to see the full impact of their efforts and to watch the cereal boxes drop.

"Everybody's going to be like wow...and when they say wow, they're going to be like this is such a good thing that we're doing," said one Creekside Character Team students, anticipating the reaction from her classmates.

The dominoes have now fallen to the Independence Elementary School community, which has been challenged to repeat the act of kindness. Will they accept the challenge?
